Hear No Evil: Part Two
The following morning, they set out again. The constant whipping back and forth of the boy’s head never seized. Bjorn was only startled when Sven had finally joined the boy in a sudden jerking movement. Like a deer to salt Sven and Adam trotted toward the noise and so Bjorn followed behind them. The trio ravaged off the path to a clearing. In the morning rays of light upon the dew they found a Faun. The creature had appeared to many of the villagers who had previously ventured into the woods, though they all knew of Fauns as ‘God of the Forest’ from stories told long ago. So, it was not an odd thing for Bjorn to see the father and son drop their guard upon its sight. Bjorn himself, however, had not felt such a draw to the creature.
“What brings ye upon my land?” The Faun spoke. “In search of some missing people, came ‘ere bout’ a week ago.”
“I ‘aven’t seen a man in quite some time, though I’m not ta leave ye without ‘elp.”
The Faun soon led the pack through the forest of which it ruled. Another day passed them by, and camp was made with a new member to the search party lying about them.
In the waspy dead of that night, as the embers of the campfire gave off their final glows a beast lurked across the ground they lay upon. No louder than a whisper it…
