There’s no doubt that the most difficult part of creating a new blog and getting it out there is link-building. How do we do that? By increasing the domain authority.

And how’s that done?

Well, there are a few methods for it, but the most effective one is definitely getting other blogs/publishers to link to your content in their posts.

That way, it informs Google that since bigger websites are linking and trusting your content, it must be beneficial for readers.

That way your domain authority increases fast.

But this process is easier said than done.

Ask anyone who has created a new blog and they’ll tell you that link building is definitely the most difficult and time taking process of promoting a blog.

If you’ve created a new blog and are struggling to get other blogs/publishers to link to it, I’ve listed a few mistakes you might be doing that are refraining your blog from getting the love it deserves.

Here are some common mistakes 👇

Go through this list one by one and check if you fall into any of the categories I’ve listed.

1- You aren’t reaching out to other blogs (🎯 Cold Outreach)

When you read a post on someone else’s blog and come across a topic that you think deserves more or a clear explanation.

You should write about that in your blog and afterward, reach out to that blog’s owner to inform them how your post can be a useful addition to their already existing post and how their readers can take benefit from it.

This method is called Cold Outreach.

Once they receive your message and find your post helpful, they are most likely going to link to it in their post, earning you a free backlink from a reputable source.

Plus, it’ll allow you to build a relationship with them for future collaborations.

2- 🌎 Make a name for yourself out there

When you create a new blog, no one is going to find out about it by accident, you’ll need to do proper promotion and get it out there on different social media platforms to inform others about it.

Share it in Facebook Groups, promote it on Twitter, and recommend it to people on Quora, there are so many methods you can utilize to increase the popularity of your blog without spending a single penny.

Once people will get to know about your blog and they’ll read it, there are going to be readers who might have their own blogs and find your content helpful. This way, you earn backlinks through them and increase the authority of your site.

3- 🔗 Look for broken links in other blogs, re-write, and reach out to ask for a link

Sometimes, it happens that bigger sites may have broken links in their older posts when they have included links to other posts that have since been deleted.

You can use a free Chrome extension like Check My Links to detect broken links on different websites.

Broken links are the links that used to exist at some point but now have been moved (or removed) and they don’t lead to anywhere (which has a bad impact on SEO).

You can then reach out to the admins of those websites and inform them about these broken links.

This way you will earn yourself a golden opportunity to ask for a backlink and if they are generous enough, they might give it to you without you even asking.

4- 📈 Write on topics that are in demand

Oftentimes, people tend to write about things that only they care about without doing any proper keyword research.

They think that since they are passionate about a certain thing and like writing about it, they are sure to get noticed.

Since this belief isn't completely wrong and the chances of getting success are still there, your pace toward your goal will be slowed down significantly.

This is why doing proper keyword research is absolutely necessary.

Rather than wasting your time writing about things that people aren’t really interested in, you should use a good keyword research tool and look for topics that have a high search volume and low competition.

Therefore, your chances of getting ranked are increased and if your content is good enough, you’ll automatically start earning backlinks from relative websites.

5- 💹 Re-write and improve the content of other websites

Sometimes, you might come across certain posts from your competitors that would be a year old and would contain information that might’ve changed over time.

In this case, you get the opportunity to re-write that post and include updated information in it.

Since Google always ranks websites that have updated info, the chances of you outranking your competitor are increased.

Better visibility on the SERP means an easier time for others to find your website and hence, link to it.

Similarly, if you come across content that isn’t “outdated” but you think can be improved by adding some portions like tables or bullet points into it, that also gives you the chance to outrank your competitor.

Overall, constant research and improved content are the keys to earning backlinks and outranking other websites.

These are some of the many common hurdles beginners face when they create a new blog and want to promote it.

I learned about this method of getting backlinks from Hasan Aboul Hasan. He said in one of his videos that instead of reaching out to other blogs to ask for backlinks, we should make our blog so good that other blogs are compelled to link to it by themselves.

This means writing about topics and having decent content that others find so useful it makes them think that linking to your website will add quality to their post.

I hope this post has helped you in understanding the process of getting backlinks to your website.
