When you ask, ‘How have you been?’
I’d say,
‘Up and down, in circles,
A bit woozy from all the mountain fog,
Living my dreams and dreaming about my life,
Playing tag with myself.’
What have I ever told you?

‘Are you okay?’
I’d quip,
‘Peachy. Occasional urges to go on a murder spree,
kick puppies, and punch babies.’
We both laugh, and, of course, I didn’t mean that.
But what did I mean? And what if I did…..
What have I ever told you?

‘Did it hurt?’
I’d say,
‘Pain is an illusion,
Mind over matter.
I am who I was before and will be who I am after.
Tell me what you want me to say, and I’ll say it.’

I talk and talk and talk and tell you nothing.
