House on the Hill

Poem
A girl forced to leave
her house on the hill
where the willow tree blew
like a breeze off the beach
outside her bedroom window.
Down the second hill below her home,
her pony coated in the color of hay,
whose name Goldie applies to her color
waits to be sent off to the girl’s uncle’s house
with her brother, the gentle one-eyed horse,
who is far more delicate than his sister.
That pasture will be long gone
by the time the girl moves
into the large house far away.
