How EFT Tapping Transforms Your Emotions and Mindset
The power of a simple practice to shift your approach to life
Introduction
After months of riding an emotional rollercoaster around health, relationships, and uprootedness, I was more than a little skeptical when a friend recently suggested tapping my body for a few minutes each day would solve my problems.
I had already heard of tapping — more formally known as Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) — many times. It involves tapping various acupressure points on the body while speaking about emotionally charged ideas. But since it existed in a vague middle ground in my mind between science and new age fads, I had never looked into it.
When I finally looked up EFT, I was amazed by the amount of scientific research supporting it. Studies indicate that EFT is a highly effective treatment for many mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, and PTSD.
Existing meta-analyses show that as a treatment for PTSD, clinical EFT is associated with remediation of PTSD symptom levels in 84–90% of veterans. It has also been tied to measurable physiological benefits, including reduced levels of stress hormones, decreased symptoms of pain, and changes in the expression of stress genes.
