For most of us, our nerves can really mess up our performance in job interviews.

From my own experiences being interviewed and as the interviewer — I’ve seen nerves make otherwise good communicators tongue-tied, ramble off track and omit key points.

We can be impacted physically too — with sweaty palms, shaking or tomato-red faces!

Job interview anxiety (a type of performance anxiety) doesn’t affect everyone in the same way. Some people are debilitated by it, while others feel a bit nervous but look forward to the reward if they’re successful. Performance anxiety has been examined in sport, and the meaning we attach to performance can also determine the level of anxiety we feel and how best to manage it.

But most of us, we feel nervous to some degree, in the lead-up to the big day.

Why manage job interview nerves

It’s vital to manage our nerves before a job interview so we perform our best and show we are the best person for that job.

Experiencing some nerves is healthy and for some people, can be seen as helpful…
