“I need coffee.”

The Kickstart of Mornings

Until I’ve had my first cup, I don’t even think the day has begun. That first drink? Pure magic. In my mind, it’s like a switch that flips: “Okay, we’re doing this.”

Research backs this up. Johns Hopkins University has demonstrated that caffeine enhances short-term memory and attentiveness. But here’s the worst part: Usually, just one cup is enough to start the day. More than that? I’ve discovered the hard way that it simply makes me uneasy.

The Impact of Caffeine on the Body

Have you ever had that strange high from drinking too much coffee?I do agree. Caffeine inhibits the chemical adenosine, which tells us to slow down and rest. It also has a favorable effect on dopamine, the “happy hormone.”
