2024 was my first full year monetized, so here is the reality of a 42-year-old small-time creator with less than 10k followers who is still filming content on my iPhone.
The internet is filled with people shouting about how their channel blew up overnight and started earning millions, yet that’s not the reality of most regular people who create on YouTube.
I’m a busy midlife woman with kids, a household to run, and my main work as a health and fitness coach.
I’m also not someone whose channel is about how to grow on YouTube, as that is another arm of people who are only making decent money because they are talking about the platform itself.
My YouTube Journey
My journey to hitting YouTube monetization (1k subscribers and 4000 watch hours) was a long one. I’m talking over 15 years in the making. But it was really only in 2023 that I started intentionally trying to work on my channel as an extra source of income.
