I did grow up with my nose in books.
Reading was more of a chore than a pleasure, something I did when I had to, not because I wanted to. I am talking about textbooks.
But something transformed my point of view.
My dad used to read a lot. He was a cop, but his eyes were always in books whenever he was off. He read all kinds of books.
Somehow, he never encouraged us to read what he was consuming. I was a sneaky kid, tho.
I was always curious. Like any other kid, I was more inclined to pursue what my parents said was not right for me. lol
My mom says there is no electronic device/appliance at home that I never disassembled. Many I successfully fixed, and many I wasn't even able to bring back to life.
Anyway, I started reading what my dad was reading, simply putting his books next to my textbooks. He was a huge fan of fiction, and I read almost every book he ever purchased.
After building a reading habit, I started reading other genres.
