How Space Allowed Me To Live A Fulfilling life
Moon was shining and stars were twinkling. All of a sudden, a fireball appeared in the sky. I shouted out and asked my brother,” lookup in the sky at the shooting star.” We were amazed. I was looking at the sky decorated with billions of stars, lying on the bed in the courtyard of my house.
As a child, it was my first encounter with space and its magnanimity and vastness. The instant questions that came to mind were, who created these billions of stars, the moon, and planets, how far are these heavenly bodies, how big is our Earth, is there any boundary of the space?
Grown-up and educated, I came to know that our Universe contains billions of galaxies containing billions of stars and that there is huge space between the stars and galaxies.
When looking at space, several questions pop up in my mind; are we alone? are there aliens out there on some planet? My intuition whispers to me that there is a chance that we are not alone in this magnificent Universe, and someday extraterrestrial beings would try to find us, or we would detect them. As many scientists argue that there must be planets older than the Earth and if so, there may be at least one society of intelligent life.
On a personal level, space has played a vital role in enhancing my mental health. When I get fatigued because of a hectic day and household chores, I make room for myself and go for a nature walk or driving that allows me to unwind.
True, being social animals, we need each other, but it is equally necessary to claim living and personal space. I believe this is one of the reasons we claim space and turn it into homes, refuges, and communities.
Forging relationships with others, I have come across two types of people in my life: one who are supporters and the other who are haters or critics. Here space comes to rescue me from the negative people. I distance myself from these toxic people who drain my energy, motivation, and peace of mind, which allows me to stick with my plan and be myself.
The more I think about the role of space in my life, the more I realize that today space is playing a key role in our daily lives, breaking barriers to communication and limits to knowledge. For example, satellites moving in space provide scientists with crucial information about the weather patterns, who warn us to take precautions to save our lives and property. Moreover, these satellites provide necessary information to the captains of ships and the pilots of airplanes about the extreme weather, allowing them to plan a safe journey.
Furthermore, the use of space has transformed the Earth into a truly global village and brought a revolution in the communication field. Instruments of communication such as mobile telephones and the internet relying on geostationary satellites orbiting the Earth allows us to communicate with our relatives and friends living thousands of miles away as if they are sitting next door.
Digging further into the role of space in my life, it occurs to me that physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and digital space impact my thoughts, joy, creativity, and even laughter.
To sum up, space plays a vital role in almost every aspect of our lives ranging from daily life to economics and scientific research. Especially these days survival of humanity is depending on maintaining social distancing. That is why we should make room and create space in our lives to live a safe, blissful, and fulfilling life.
