How to Apply Mindfulness In Daily Life
Even the simplest things become meaningful with awareness and presence
Before I get into how to apply mindfulness in daily life, I’d first like to tackle what mindfulness is.
I’ll leave that up to Thich Nhat Hanh who will explain further.
“Imagine a magician who cuts his body into many parts and leaves each part in one region, the hands in the south, the arms in the east and the legs in the north, and by miraculous power, by uttering a shout puts all the parts of his body back together again. That is mindfulness.” – Thich Nhat Hanh
There are many ways to experience the fullness of our being. Taking a nice deep breath is one of them. Spending time in nature is another one.
What they all have in common is the ability to be present in the present moment. There are no thoughts in the South (past) and there are no dreams in the North (future), there is only here, there is only now.
It can feel miraculous, as if a magician’s at work, but in reality, it’s bringing our full awareness into the present moment and knowing that there isn’t going to be another moment like this ever again.
That is mindfulness.
