How to Overcome Social Anxiety

“Hey, Chun Hao! Can you introduce yourself to the class?”

That is literally my worst nightmare — or an introvert's nightmare.

How I interpret it 90% of the time is what I can tell others so as not to embarrass myself and to make a great first impression. Let me tell you that it is a behemoth task for anyone with social anxiety.

Our brains think differently.

We remember every little thing we did in public or when we are out with people.

That one time when I try to crack a joke and no one truly gets it, yet they still force out giggles — oof, that is definitely staying with me for a long, long time.

But you are here reading as you want to get rid of those butterflies in your stomach, the sickness you feel in your gut when you know there’s impending social interaction around the corner.

Truth be told, you do not get rid of social anxiety that easily. The simplest way I’d describe the solution for social anxiety will be to be comfortable with being uncomfortable.

Yes. You will still feel sick in the stomach when you realize you have a gathering with your elementary school friends next week. But what’s different is the approach you take…
