Sovereign, Sovereignty.

It’s an interesting word isn’t it? One we don’t hear all too often in modern society.

I wonder why that is?

I first started hearing this word thrown around a lot when I joined a group coaching program a few months ago. Our coach and many of the other facilitators kept talking about being sovereign.

My logical mind kind knew what it meant. But didn’t really understand the true depth of the meaning. It’s one of those old, forgotten, unused words.

What does sovereignty mean?

In case you’re wondering here’s what it means:

“supreme power or authority.”

“the authority of a state to govern itself or another state.”

“a self-governing state.”

These are definitions from the Oxford Dictionary.

So what does that really mean?

“Sovereignty is the full right and power of a governing body over itself, without any interference from outside sources or bodies.”
