There seem to be a lot of conflicting opinions about whether or not it’s OK to be annoyed with nudity in gym locker rooms. If it irritates you then some people will tell you you are not a proper adult, but that doesn’t change the fact that demand for private changing areas in gyms is at an all-time high; architects are being asked now more than ever before to design locker rooms that allow people to avoid public displays of nudity.

Personally, I find excessive nudity in the changing rooms annoying. I get it, the locker rooms are also called the changing rooms for a reason — a little bit of nakedness is unavoidable when you get changed. What I can’t get on board with is standing butt naked for several minutes straight, hands on your hips, having a chat with your mate, belly laughing, your ‘area’ swinging around in front of everyone’s face so they don’t know where to look.

Despite my irritation, which is shared by men and women alike, I realise I have little control over other people’s dressing habits. So, I’ve learnt to not let my locker room annoyances get the better of me — by using some of the advice given later in this article — so that I can still enjoy my time in the gym.
