“We all love ourselves more than other people, but care more about their opinion than our own,” whether they are friends, strangers, or enemies. — Marcus Aurelius

Do you find yourself worrying too much about what others think? it’s absolutely normal to pay attention to others’ opinions as long they are important in your life but what if even the slightest of things starts worrying you?

As social beings, we find a dire need to fit in, just so we are liked by others around us. but one should know where to draw a line.

Here are 8 ways to stop giving a shit and create a life you want for yourself —

1. Start accepting yourself the way you’re

When you don't know anything about your strengths, weaknesses, and things that makes you unique it’s easier to follow the crowd.

when you accept yourself the way you’re you don't seek validation or approval from others and care less about others' opinions.

2. Don’t seek approval all the time.

When you behave and do things in order to please others and seek approval you probably might be avoiding certain things that you love doing because you care too much about what others expect from you.

You get stuck in your comfort zone and might even lose a lot of opportunities coming your way. caring less about what others say and not seeking others' approval makes you open to learning new things while keeping the fear of failure aside.

“Care about people’s approval, and you will be their prisoner.” — Lao Tzu

3. Embrace your uniqueness

This is the extension of point #1 when you fully accept yourself inside out, you are likely to care less about what others think of you. Every one of us is indeed blessed with something unique, find your uniqueness and embrace it. This helps you attract like-minded people and stay away from people that do not appreciate your uniqueness and gifts.

4. Don't always try to “fit in”

Be yourself and the right ones will you.

Instead of being a yes-man and always trying to fit in, just be yourself, and let’s be honest you can't impress everyone, and neither you should( unless you’re a clown), but it’s good to remember that there will always be someone who’ll disagree with you. that’s fine. accept it and let go.

5. Set goals and fill your life with meaning and purpose

Work on yourself. have a vision. create the life you want for yourself.

A person who is focused and clear about what he/she wants doesn't give a damn about what others think about them. It’s your insecurities that let you believe that you always need to be a certain way, behave a certain way, and of course, lead a life in a certain way. fill your life with purpose and you’ll have no time to give a shit what others think.

6. Believe in yourself

If not you…who will?

When you have self-confidence. you don't feel the need to be liked by everyone around you. you understand your weakness. You’re absolutely aware of the areas that demand more attention. This allows you to prioritize what is important in your life. and makes a way for you to not take anybody’s shit.

7. Say ‘No’ more often

When you respect yourself, people around you start doing the same. Of course, you don't have to say No to every opportunity coming your way. prioritize the things that are important to you, and that brings happiness to you.

This is the no bs attitude you must have in life. your time is limited, and how you choose to spend it, and with whom you choose to spend will ultimately decide the quality of your life.

8. Develop a thick skin

No matter where you’re in life and what you do. you’ll face situations when things won't be in your favor. there will be people who will pull your leg and will leave no stone unturned to temper your reputation.

So can we do anything about this? No, not every time, you must learn to choose your battles. you have to have a really thick skin when it comes to criticism or rejection. , not every battle is worth your time.

Final Thoughts

When you focus on yourself, and your goals and start filling your life with purpose and meaning you make an invisible bubble around you. a bubble of confidence, contentment, and a bigger purpose. you automatically shift your focus from what others say or think to what matters most to you at that moment. and that’s where things start to change. you become happier and at peace with yourself.
