How to stop overthinking with just 5 methods!

Almost everyone is worried nowadays due to the bad habit of overthinking. Stress, tension, and depression are the most common conditions that give rise to the habit of overthinking. Most of our free time is consumed by thinking about things that may not happen, yet we still overthink about them. So, a question arises: how to control overthinking, how to take the reins of your mind into your hands. Today's article is all about this topic, in which I will share my personal experience of how I defeated this habit.

1. Acceptance of what you are:

Sometimes, during the struggling stages, a person thinks about what if he doesn't get successful in the future. I used to overthink all day back in my teenage years. But the real thing to overcome this thought is to accept what you are. If you are successful at your age, for example, if you are a student and giving your best in studying and becoming the best student in your class, it ultimately proves that you will be successful in the future as well because your present will decide your future. If you are bad at a certain thing, you have to accept that you are bad at it and you will try your best to become incredible in that certain thing or activity.

2. Reward yourself:

It is the behavior of human beings that when they get new things that they wished for, they become happy. Overthinking gives rise to sadness as most of the time a person thinks negatively about the situation. So rewarding yourself will create a happy thought in your mind; hence, you will feel much better. A reward can be a small chocolate or big devices like things which will make you feel better.

3. Change the environment:

Habituation is the process of becoming accustomed to an internal or external stimulus, such as a noxious smell or loud noise. If a person is habituated to a certain environment that forces him/her to overthink, then changing the environment is a must for him/her to overcome this habit. Like if a person overthinks that he is not successful when he is with his rich friends, so it is better to stop talking to these friends and change your company with someone he/she feels comfortable with.

4. Going outside for fun activities:

Most of the people who are the patient of this habit don't go outside for fun activities, instead try to stay alone in solitude. When the person is alone, all he is left with is thoughts. So, if you know that at 7 pm when you are at home, you overthink, at that time going outside to the park or arcade can distract your mood to some extent to avoid overthinking.

5. Distraction:

This method is the most used method of mine whenever I get caught in the trap of thinking. Distraction is the most powerful method that a person can use if he has a habit of overthinking. In this method, you have to select some activities that you like the most. Let's suppose there is a girl, Aliya, who likes to play football and watch videos on YouTube. In the morning, if she feels that she has started overthinking, she can go outside to play football which will distract her mood and avoid overthinking, and if at night she is at home she can use a cellphone to watch YouTube videos which will make her feel better.

These are some of my personal methods that I have used till now in my personal 2 years of overthinking experience, and I can proudly say that all of them work as these worked for me. Practicing these habits for a month will make you stop overthinking for sure, and you will feel a massive change in your mood and thinking.
