I am running into a new year and I am not looking behind
at the places and people and the way we both knew this year
was the start of your leaving the quiet quitting the ebb of you
I have grown tired of searching for the meaning in your words
you say I’m thinking of you and the misnomer is not lost on me
and there is too much water under this bridge like floods, and
floods, and I have never wanted to be a dead girl winched from
a river so I am running into a new year like leaving behind like
unclenched fingers like letting go like leaves blown across time
like the migration of shorebirds; the bringing in of a new song.
