In a recent discussion with fellow writers we talked about how it’s not uncommon for someone bereaved to be angry with the person who died. It’s quite natural to feel aggrieved that the person you need most is both absent and the one causing you pain. It’s painful when someone close to you, and upon whom you depend, let’s you down. And so it has been with many of us who looked to the Labour Party as a much needed means to change our country for the better and have been bitterly disappointed.

So your team lost — get over it

This was the response from many after the party crashed and burned at the end of 2019 in the general election. Yet, as I’ve recalled in my previous articles, it wasn’t a case of the best team winning and sour grapes for the losers. It was, in part, down to our own elected Labour MPs and the party machine self sabotaging plus heavy media bias. It wasn’t just that we believed Labour could do a better job, we had transformative policies such as bringing essential utilities back into public ownership. We had a leader who was against military intervention and for bringing big business to heal. Alas, this wasn’t to be and we are left with a country in a state of collapse with filthy rivers and rising…
