I’ve self-published three children’s picture books featuring characters lacking the social skills needed to feel self-worth and see the worth in others.
I enjoyed creating the different roles, placing them in internal and external conflicts, and resolving these struggles. Also, I effortlessly used figurative language and humor to arouse sensory images.

I was excited to see the first manuscript completed in print as a paperback. The self-publisher planned a book launch, a review, and promotions on their website and social media. They composed an enticing summary and a complimentary bio on the Amazon page, where they promoted the book. I phoned and e-mailed my contacts. Within a few days, I had sold twenty books. For a couple of months, sales were steady. Amazon is not generous with royalties, but the ball was rolling.
With time, I had no more potential buyers, so I called the publisher. The owner told me that I’d have to purchase ads on social media, make library and school visits, write more books, and build a website…
