Three days ago, I started reading Gary Vaynerchuk’s latest book, Day Trading Attention, and I’ve already found a problem with how I’m approaching my content. Even though the book is primarily about marketing on social media platforms, one part I feel applies to Medium is about relevancy.

Vaynerchuk states that the algorithm for TikTok, Instagram, and the others is not geared toward who you follow, but rather, it’s used to fill your feed with what you’re interested in. This is important to someone who posts content online. For me, it means that if you’re reading my work, you’re doing so because you’ve found a topic or idea that you can relate to, and that you will follow me if you see enough of that subject in my other articles.

This is where I’m confused, and I need your help.

This is my 262nd post on Medium. With that kind of number, you’d think I would have a handle on what the people who follow me are looking for. Yet, if you look through my work, I’m all over the place as a writer.
