As a British dude, the decision to get sober was like handing my passport in and revoking my citizenship.
Drinking problems in the UK are like a pair of RayBan sunglasses. Fashionable. And everyone’s got one.
Troublesome Drinking Culture in the UK
Alcoholics are not looked down on like they are in other countries. In fact, they are celebrated as “Legends”.
Everyone’s in complete denial when their drinking gets out of control and inappropriate actions are brushed under the carpet as they’re “just having a laugh”.
If you don't want to drink you are branded boring and a buzzkill.
So with all the upsides, why the hell would you stop?
And why did I decide to stop drinking for good?
This deserves a full article/book in itself.
But to give the short answer, drinking cost me a lot.
And there was a moment when my eyes opened and I knew I needed a change.
And since then I haven't looked back and my life has improved as a result.
