First, of all, everyone knows what Mac and windows are, right? For those who don't know what these are, Mac is the operating system on Laptops/Desktop produced by Apple and Windows is the Operating System produced by Microsoft (which you can generally find in any other Laptop/Pc).

So I had been using Macbook Pro for like 2 years. I go to school, so it was a great piece of tech for me to use. It was fluid, efficient, and was a workhorse. Now you might be thinking, what was wrong with my MacBook? I had to upgrade cuz my MacBook was outdated. I tried buying the all-new Macbook Pro 2020 but the price tag on it was just not doing the job for me. With having a plethora of options on Windows, It just felt like I wasn't getting the value for the bucks I am spending.

Back in the day, Windows had a limited option, and to be honest, it was total garbage. But now it has evolved a lot and has gotten significantly better. Over the past few years, Microsoft has innovated some incredible machines. They have got some sleek, fluid, futuristic, hi-tech ultrabooks up their sleeves. And interestingly, the price point was just doing the charm for me. To put things in perspective the Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 starts from $999 and 2020 Macbook Pro starts from $1299. Look at those numbers there is a whopping $300 difference. You can buy a decent smartphone with that kind of money. To see it from a technology perspective I will put the Specification comparison at the bottom of this story. (feel free to skip the specs segment if you are not into this kinda things)These two devices are pretty similar specification wise and could perfectly handle the things that I normally do. Hence I thought of buying the Microsoft one cause then I will get an extra $300 to buy accessories and all.

And drumroll please, I BOUGHT IT. (Microsoft Surface Laptop 3)

What was good about switching to Windows?

I was finding it very hassle-free with the all-new Windows 10. I mean man you know how it is, Windows is very flexible. I am gonna list some things that I could do with Windows and which I was unable to do with Mac.

  • I could share files from my android phone now. Here is the thing, you can not connect your android phone to your Mac with the USB cable. How inconvenient is that? I couldn't even transfer all of the UHD photos that I took from my Android phone(secondary phone, no flex). I had to use ShareIt to perform this function. But everything has changed now, I got Windows, it supports Android and any other OS.
  • I could read and write my External hard drive without formatting it. Did y’all know about this, because I certainly didn't? I bought a new external hard drive and I was using windows back then. I didn't bother to format the hard drive because I didn't have any idea about it. I transferred all of my data into it. But when I inserted in my MacBook, I could only read the drive. It was a bummer that I couldn't do that. I had to reformat the drive to exFAT to make it read & write on both Mac & Window.
  • I could get free Softwares and could play games. (light gaming) Windows has the advantage of more games and software being written for it over Mac. Simply because more gamers/users use it and more developers target it, more games and programs run on it. There is a plethora of freeware available to Windows users.
  • I could use Windows Hello facial-recognition camera (similar to Face ID) to unlock my Lappy. (how cool is that you can unlock your lappy by just having a peek at it, and I also think that face ID is the best functioning when you use it in a computer)
  • I could use a Surface Pen if I wanted. FYI: none of the Mac is Touchscreen or Stylus Pen supported. It is good to have an option right now.
  • I could easily upgrade & replace parts on my own. Windows is very flexible and customizable, unlike Mac which is the complete opposite. Say your SSD is full and you want to upgrade it, all you have to do is buy a new one and put it right into the PC.
  • I could manage my windows seamlessly. All I have to say is that Windows management in Mac is just terrible.
  • I could go to the beginning and end of a document with home and end keys.
  • I could use that sweet REFRESH button again. (God! clicking that button is so satisfying)

Why am I missing my MacBook?

Now everything was fine for the first two weeks. You know the feeling when you get to explore a new piece of tech that you got for yourself, it was terrific. But there are certain things for which I missed my MacBook very hardly. Let me list them out for ya.

  • The Apple Ecosystem

I can not overstate the benefits of the Apple ecosystem. When you enter a contact on your phone it is automatically on your iPad and your MacBook and your iMac. When you enter a new calendar event on your iMac, it is automatically on your iPhone and your iPad and your MacBook Pro and the event reminder comes up on your Apple Watch. It is seamless and it just works. If you get a Windows laptop and an Android phone you can get some synchronization with Google Calendar, but it won’t be anything close to seamless.

  • Mac Os UI

The user interface in Mac OS Catalina is just very minimal, simple, fluid, ease of use, yet futuristic. I love the UI very very much, it just used to soothe my eyes. And I cannot miss it more. On the other hand, the UI in Windows is not that bad, it is just that I don't prefer the UI over MACs’.

  • Privacy/Security

I just don't feel that secure with my Windows Laptop. Windows PCs have fallen prey to far more malware than Macs in the recent past, including ransomware, spyware, botnets, and good old-fashioned viruses. Macs are continually shown to suffer fewer attacks than Windows-based PCs and by quite a margin.

  • Final cut pro(FCP)

I am also a video editor, I post stuff on Youtube. And I am missing my FCP( only MAC supported video production software) dreadfully. There is an alternative to that in Windows called Adobe Premiere Pro, but it's just not that hassle-free like FCP.

  • Inbuilt Apps

There are some Applications in Mac which I fancy a lot. Like Apple Music, Apple Tv, Airdrop, Podcast, Safari, etc. I got the alternatives for every single one of 'em. But they are just unable to deliver the same polished experience.

  • Non-Crashing OS

Damn, I hate Windows for this. Man, it crashes a lot. Crashing on Mac is like a no show. Every time try to do something time consuming, Windows shows its true colors.

  • Spotlight Search

I know, I know, It is a silly thing to say but I love me a spotlight search.

FINAL VERDICT

Now that all of that is being said, I am gonna give you my final verdict.

What am I gonna do now? Will I keep the Windows? Where did I go wrong?

I am gonna switch to Mac again. And yes I will keep the windows for a month and then I will sell it. I went wrong on spending my precious on Windows. I am a person who is inside The Apple Wormhole, I can't get out of it. And it is a good thing to be in it.
