If I could do things again I would live my life differently.- Dr Gabor Mate

Above is a quote by Dr Gabor Mate.

Here is what he says:

  • Winnie the Pooh's book resonates with Gabor because in the book, Christopher Robbins tells his friends that he won’t be able to play with them so much anymore.
  • What Gabor was not aware of when he was in medical school and when he was a physician was, how driven he was to justify his existence in the world. He wished he hadn’t worked so hard. When you work so hard, you ignore what matters, and what matters is the weeks you take away from your work to spend time with your family, friends and people that matter to you.
  • Winnie the Pooh will continue playing in the enchanted forest in the book. This brings tears to Gaber's eyes because he always felt he needed to keep working.

People sacrifice their playfulness, their joyfulness by being driven by the unconscious needs to validate their existence. Play is so important and joy is so important.- Dr Gabor Mate
