Every Sunday morning I read a book about writing and give it a go with a writing prompt. Since being published in a poetry anthology, Writer On Fire: Poetry Prompts to Ignite the Poet Within, I have been using the prompts in this great collection as my Sunday morning muse.

Here’s how it’s going so far.

This week’s prompt is an Abecedarius poem. The least intimidating of poetry prompts. This can easily be used in a writers group, as a repeated prompt to spark creativity when you’re stuck, and would work well with children too.

Simply write all the letters of the alphabet down the left side of your paper. Then, without stopping or judging what comes to mind, write words or…
