I’m a Hot Mess
And when I think of just how much of a hot mess I am, it makes me uncomfortable.

The other day, on TikTok, I came across a series of photos posted by a user, who shall remain nameless, explaining things she claimed that God had told her to stop doing. One of them was to stop, as she put it, “talkin trash.” She gave examples of the kind of “trash” phrases she was referring to. These included:
- “I’m broke”
- “I’m tired of this life”
- “I’m broke/poor”
At first read, I was onboard with the idea. To back her claim, she gave a Bible verse about how powerful our tongue (speech) is in influencing ourselves and others. I took her post to mean that we should not speak these negative things over our lives, but rather focus on the positive. You know, claim what you want, and it’s yours, right?
Wrong — well partially, at least it is in my humble opinion.
If simply speaking into the universe or believing for something means that you’ll get it, we might as well wrap it up…
