Inside the Circleville Letters: The Shocking True Story of a Small Town's Secret
The Circleville Writer
We live in a mysterious world. Some get uncovered, while others remain unexplored. The small town of Circleville, Ohio, was once the center of one of America's most spooky and enduring mysteries: the Circleville Letters.
For years, the townspeople kept receiving anonymous letters with accusations, threats, and sometimes personal details about their lives. Despite various investigations and theories, the identity of the person or group responsible for the letters is a mystery.
How it all began?
The strange and weird Circleville Letters mystery began in 1976 when a local bus driver, Mary Gillespie, received a handwritten letter indicting her of having an illicit affair with the director of schools. The mystery letter was posted from Columbus, Ohio, but without a return address.
The letter was signed, "The Circleville Writer."
Having received a spooky letter, Gillespie was perturbed and shared the letter's content with her husband, Ron, and brother-in-law, Paul Freshour. However, they decided to keep this letter a secret, but over the next several months, a series of letters arrived.
