Iron Sharpens Iron But Do You Sharpen Yourself?
“As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.” (Proverb 27:17)
Iron sharpens iron but do you sharpen yourself?
Sometimes we don’t have the luxury of being around the people who will sharpen us but are we faithfully sharpening ourselves? The age we live in is often referred to as the “information age” but information doesn’t translate into knowledge and skills unless we seize the information readily flowing from our fingertips.
Never before in all of human history have we had access to such knowledge and a vast array of options. It can be daunting to focus on something because we simply can’t learn everything, so this generation’s struggle is the poignant use of choice and focus. In history, there has never been the number of choices that a human has had to make until now. Most careers were already decided for you or at least there wasn’t much to choose from so focus became easy as decisions became easy.
But today’s world is much different from past civilizations and the challenge today is decision and focus. Analysis paralysis takes hold of so many today that they never get to the first step. Once we decide, our focus locks in. If we don’t commit then we will inevitably be back before step one. The decision, commitment, and focus are what create success.
