IRS Impersonators Are Not Nice

Beware of those scams

They are trying to steal your money

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) website says that there are scams where someone is impersonating an IRS agent. They give warnings that American citizens should be careful not to fall for the dishonest scammers who will try to take their money. There are many scams out there, but it is not always easy to tell what phone calls are scams and what are not.

The IRS says that they will never call you unless they are returning a call to you after you initiated the inquiry. If you get a phone call from someone who says they are an IRS agent, you should be immediately suspect. It is almost certainly a scam.

Although my phone number is listed with the national do not call list, I receive a lot of solicitor calls. I try to opt out of such calls or not answer them. Sometimes I do answer because they do not say who they are, but they are from an area where I know people. I think it might be someone I know.

One such call which was answered was from an IRS impersonator. The person gave a name and said he was a special agent with the IRS. He was calling from Washington, D.C. supposedly.
