If asked to choose one habit that could be ingrained within you, what habit would it be?

I would guess that some of you would say:

  • Waking up early in the morning
  • Going to the gym
  • Journaling
  • Eating Clean and Hydrating
  • Getting good sleep
  • Meditating

But I would argue that maybe the greatest of them all is…

Reading.

Wait! Hear me out first!

The Common Denominator

What do most of the greats have in common?

They used to read! We always hear how consistent reading was the catalyst for their success.

The billionaire titan Warren Buffet said he keeps his calendar clear daily to read most of the day.

“When I want to discover something, I begin by reading.” — Thomas Edison

“Of all things, I like books best.” — Nicola Tesla

“Reading is the gateway skill that makes all other learning possible.” — President Barack Obama

So, if the surest way to shorten our path to success is by emulating the successful, then establishing a reading habit for ourselves is a must.

Foundational To All

Reading incites self-discipline. The reality is that the most challenging part of reading is not that we can’t find the time or good books to read but — *drumrolls* — our inability to sit down! (You can blame our society for this. We’re constantly overstimulated and entertained.)

Consequently, if you establish a habit of reading for 30 mins to 1 hr a day, you will form the mental fortitude to do something seemingly boring.

Which, in return, will help you form other taxing habits like journaling, exercising, meditating, etc.

And that’s not to mention the valuable benefits you will learn about these habits through reading, which can be the motivation needed to establish them.

So, get reading!
