- Don’t write if you feel you are doing it to finish the post/blog rather than what needs to be said. You may feel ‘they will never know,’ but they always do.
- Don’t write to impress the readers. Treat them not as your sweetheart but as your spouse — there’s no need to put on a show. Just be who you are.
- Don’t blindly follow the productivity rules — the 5 a.m., the frog-eating, the pomegranate (I know I wrote that). Define your own rules and pick only what works best for you.
- Don’t write to prove something to yourself. Let it not be a tool to validate your skill or intelligence. It’s the worst chain you can tie yourself to.
- Don’t write to hear yourself talk. Like how you love to hear your voice on a mic. Writing isn’t about self-indulgence; it’s about purpose. Make it count.
- Don’t say — I’m not jealous of other writers. God knows you are. We all are. But let it not cripple you. Copy them, learn from them, collaborate, get inspired, challenge them…& if they disturb you much…no, don’t kill them…block them. But keep writing.
- Don’t hate your demons — doubts, fear, mental blocks…you know the gang. Instead, listen to them. They are hinting at exactly what you need…
