Donald Trump is currently in the fray of the only historic criminal trial of a former president. His criminal court appearance is mandatory throughout this ongoing trial and jury selection is now in process. Today, April 16, 2024, he complained verbally that it was disrupting his campaign. He claimed he should be campaigning in Pennsylvania instead of attending the court proceedings. Trump also slammed the judge overseeing the trial.
On Monday, April 15, 2024, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office requested intervention into the alleged violation of a gag order placed on Donald Trump. Sanctions of 1k each for three infractions were requested by the prosecution. Allegedly Trump posted three social media posts about Michael Cohen and others after the gag order was set.

Judge Merchan said he would hear arguments on the subject next Tuesday, April 23.

Trump has been well aware for weeks that violating such an order could result in fines and jail time. He had been fined multiple times in his civil fraud case in the past. He receives thousands in donations and the fines imposed may mean little to such a powerful player.

The tone of this historic trial is soon to be set. Judge Merchan is not backing down from the challenges at hand.
The coming weeks are at the forefront of our United States News.
