Impacted is the latest corporate euphemism to help everyone feel better about the precariousness we all face. Is it just me, or does it seem like everyone is getting “impacted” by layoffs these days?
Unlike the before-times, these days, many of us are laid off via Zoom in a meeting with strangers (I see you, Brittany) or in a huge group in an impersonal webinar. Some of us just get locked out of our computers and eventually find out through another channel that we have been axed.
There is a constellation of reasons why this happening and it has created a division between employers and the employed due to a lack of accountability and the loss of trust.
