K-Drama Political Thriller: Designated Survivor: 60 Days
When you serve as the Minister of Environment with no ambitious political aspirations, you probably don’t expect to get sworn in as president.
Designated Survivor: 60 Days is the K-Drama version of an American TV series titled Designated Survivor. The American version starred Keifer Sutherland (“24”)and the Korean version stars Ji Jin-hee (“Jewel in the Palace”).
The Americans Versus the Koreans? Both Winners!
In democratic countries like America and South Korea, there is a line of succession for persons designated to lead the country if the president is unable to perform his or her duties as leader.
In the USA, it starts with the Vice-President, then the Speaker of the House, and then it goes through a list of persons serving in the president’s cabinet, various Secretaries of “this” or “that”, etc.
In South Korea, there are Ministers that are equivalent to US Secretaries.
Whoever ends up serving as the president is called the “designated survivor”.
