Kill Porn Addiction Before It Kills You
Lethal effects of porn use and masturbation
If you have or are currently suffering from an addiction, you would understand how it consumes your soul. There is no doubt that in this era, almost every one of us is addicted to something, but being an addict is a completely different state of being. One may over analyse and label themselves as an addict, but what it really means is, to lose control over your impulse to satisfy your craving of any substance or activity.
I am not writing this to preach or scare anybody, this is my experience that I am sharing. Porn addiction and masturbation are a deadly combo plaguing the majority of population, especially young men. Our brain only responds to pleasure, and does not discern between orgasm or heroin. Dopamine is responsible for our conditional learning and drive, hence, we feel depressed or demotivated when we are deficient of this miracle hormone.
This damaging habit is increasing, as we speak, due to instant access to all kinds of information on the internet. Social media and cell phone addiction are harmful to mental health, but compared to compulsive porn use and masturbation, it is a slow release drug — which means that every time you ejaculate, you lose all the energy to nourish and heal your body for the day. Now, imagine doing it repeatedly for years, until you reach a plateau, perhaps in your late 30s. That’s when you may hit rock bottom, as testosterone levels start decreasing rapidly once men enter their 30s. This leads to pre-mature mid life crisis.
When you have experienced an extreme ecstasy, psychedelic, spiritual or through a drug, it eventually leads to a crash. Once you are burnt out, you stop feeling anything. You become indifferent to the world around you and only care about escaping your pain. Ironically what brain sees as pleasure, is actually pain for the soul. The more one indulges in sensual pleasures, the more our pain increases. It is like taking morphine or a pain killer for decades, and suddenly you are unable to feel the efficacy of the drug. You have increased the dose, but it is not as sweet as it used to be, in fact, the misery that follows it, has enhanced.
If you sense that you or your loved one has become enslaved to this habit, and it is now affecting your health, relationships and work, then make sure that you (or they) get plenty of exercise per week (at least 30 minutes per day). On top of that, seek professional help if you are going through PTSD, depression or any other mental health issue to help you over come your addiction and cope with life in general.
