Killing a fly gave me an existential crisis

Picture this, you’re a fly; an arguably sentient being that didn’t ask to be born. You’re bound by nature, locked in this seemingly six-legged body with enough intellect to only operate on instinct.

As you’re going about, trying to survive, you come across a delicious piece of meat left over by a human. You swiftly land on it, and… *SWAT* you’re dead. The human looks at your lifeless, mangled corpse, gives off a cocky laugh, and mumbles “damn fly.”

We know for an utmost fact this fly is no more. It no longer exists. That was it.

How are we any different? Was the death of this animal a subliminal reflection of our own fragile, meaningless, and insignificant existence? What if a being with a higher power, treated us like this poor fly? This hypothetical being could just end our lives in a snap like we can a fly and other insects.

In a seemingly infinite universe, the possibilities are endless. There could very well be a being with twice, if not more the power of humans. Therefore does that make us meaningless, fickle, and insignificant in the grand scheme of things?

Even the answer to such a deep question is subjective. We are objectively no more significant than any other animal on this planet. With this realization what is the solution?

Create your own meaning, turn to religion, or once again create your own meaning. Even the most powerful being in the universe could be no more objectively significant than those lower than it.

Don’t let ration and science obscure you. My friends, life is a gift and you should nonetheless cherish it. Live it to the fullest, and remember; if you were lucky enough to be born you can do anything!

Thanks for reading, stay hungry for greatness and break the rules.
