The area of and around Lake Tahoe is a popular place for tourists and water sports enthusiasts during the summer months. There is enough snow in the mountains in the winter to make it a wonderful destination for skiers and others to engage in winter sports.
Lake Tahoe is a large freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevada of the United States. Lying at 6,225 ft, it straddles the state line between California and Nevada, west of Carson City. Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine lake in North America, and at 122,160,280 acre⋅ft, it trails only the five Great Lakes as the largest by volume in the United States. Since I was born and raised in Utah and my family lived in the Bay Area of California for many years, we passed through the Lake Tahoe area during the summer months when we took vacations to Utah. Later we also started to ski regularly at South Lake Tahoe. It was always a beautiful area to pass through or to visit for a vacation and recreation.
