What is consciousness? Consciousness came first or the creatures who have it? Which came first: the chicken or the egg?
Carl Jung was a Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst. He founded analytical psychology. He said,
Consciousness is a precondition of being.
Giulio Tononi is a famous neuroscientist and psychiatrist. He holds the David P. White Chair in Sleep Medicine, and a Distinguished Chair in Consciousness Science, at the University of Wisconsin.
He has written a book — it’s called PHI: A Voyage from the Brain to the Soul. He says,
Consciousness is everything we have, and everything we are. ~ Dr. Giulio Tononi
Modern philosophy from Descartes and Locke through Hegel and Schopenhauer emphasizes the importance of consciousness. Schopenhauer called it Descartes’ great truth,
“the only fact that is actually and unconditionally given is our self consciousness.”
Einstein wrote in a letter, in 1950,
A human being is a part of the whole, called by us “Universe,” a part limited in time and space.
God is not a logical being or a physical being. She is not a light being, or an energy being, or the master of all time.
She is nothing that we know for sure. She is not real — in the ordinary sense of the word. But she is not fake either. She is not for everyone. She doesn’t take care of everything.
If you remove everything from time and space, what’s left is Her.
She is pure consciousness.
You can talk to her, and she talks back in the language of signs, events, feelings in your heart, intuitions, dreams, and inspires you to live and enjoy.
What if I said She was not God? What if I said She was pure consciousness out of which everything started? The real big bang consisted of the creation of consciousness. What if I said She cares and doesn’t care, loves and doesn’t love, and understands and doesn’t understand — at the same time?
I am sure of nothing. But pure consciousness might be something beyond time and space. Something not of the Universe and therefore omnipresent in spirit.
Think about it: When a child is born she knows nothing about anything. She is just absorbing facts and learning language and accepted behaviors. A child learns from her parents, teachers, and some of her behaviors come from her genes.
When a child is born, her genes come from her parents. When a universe is born, it comes with some information from a preexisting entity.
Logic may not be sufficient. But a chaotic event, such as a big bang, infinitely extends the initial conditions.
Imagine if the consciousness — Her Consciousness — was just a small consciousness. Even smaller than yours or mine. A Tiny consciousness. But when the big bang occurred and that consciousness — somehow — became a part of its initial content, it expanded to feel like a big consciousness — a God-like Consciousness, a cosmic consciousness.
What if She is as surprised as you and me? What if She is still trying to make sense of what happened like you and me? What if She doesn’t know but has been trying to know more about the point of Her origin or how She exploded in the big bang? What if She knows a lot but not everything? What if She has become a part of the Universal Consciousness against Her will? What if She had no control over the circumstances when Her Consciousness became Cosmic Consciousness? What if She is just the girl next door — loving, kind, generous, and completely ordinary?
All these questions are not going to be answered for ages to come. But you can get their answers in an instant.
Try this: Sit down and close your eyes. Try to feel calm and relaxed. Imagine She is real. Imagine she is the girl next door. Ask her a question. Ask her to do something for you. Ask her to fulfill your wishes. Just know that she can listen to you. If you get some of the answers — or if this exercise of closing your eyes and imagining her — changes your life in some way, then share this exercise with more people.
What is this exercise? Why am I almost completely sure that something will change in your life? The answer is:
Since consciousness is a precondition for any knowledge and information — or the collapse of a quantum wave function — She had to be there when the stars were being born. Big Bang was a quantum event and could not have occurred in absence of an observer.
She — Her Consciousness — is still a part of your consciousness. You are as much a child of the Cosmic Conscious as you are of your mother and father.
You can connect with Her just as easily as you can connect with yourself.
To feel Her you have to feel yourself. I am not sure of this, but perhaps the subconscious mind is more closely linked with Her Consciousness than with our consciousness.
When a newborn starts to suck milk from the breast of her mother, we say it is natural knowledge. The child knows how to suck because the information is saved in her subconscious mind — it is like the bios of a computer system and all computers come with some factory settings.
She is the one who is making the child suck milk. She is the one who is nurturing the child. She is the one you call your inner self or deeper self or natural self.
Whenever we say it happened naturally, we are talking about how She did it. She was caught in the big bang, just as we are stranded on this planet. She is trying to make her existence enjoyable, just as we are trying to have fun in our lives.
As we are trying to make movies, dramas, games — including first-person 3d games — she is trying to make independent intelligent players who can decide what is good for them. Just as we become happy and sad, she feels her emotions — though it is difficult for us to know her threshold of pain and joy.
She must feel. I believe all conscious beings feel. When a conscious entity processes information, something changes. She also changes and evolves as we do.
The most important thing is that She doesn’t know everything and she is not controlling everything as many like to believe.
Her life is as unpredictable for Her as ours is for us. Let’s make friends with Her this Christmas.
They say She can reveal herself as a poor or hungry stranger. Myths say She is not happy when you don’t respect your elders or love the children. She wants you to help others who need your help.
She is the inspiration that flows through your veins and transforms you into your most beautiful version. If you let her be with you, She’ll always be there to guide you and inspire others.
Note: The idea of God was created as an inspiration — not for fighting with each other. I wrote this story because I think the world needs such logic at this time.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
