Letting Go While Holding On

A Journey Through An Unwanted Separation

Recently, I had a lot of time to reflect on my life and it gave me a plethora of random thoughts to ponder upon. Do you know that there are people who work at airports but have never been on a plane? Or imagine people who work at high-end luxury stores, but probably can’t afford the same brand. Think of people who are always too nice and go the extra mile because they know what it feels like to be hurt. Similarly, there are people who have been married for a long time and yet never felt the bliss of being married. Sadly, there is no escaping the fact that I might identify with the last group, and it only gets worse from here on out.

Let me get to the point. I have been married at a time when the word ‘marriage’ sounded too adult-like. It was a love marriage and rightfully so with the person who has always been the most important thing ever. He was my home away from home and everything I thought I’d ever need. It was our first time feeling free, living independently, and peacefully in love — so much so that it felt like the first two lines from Lauv’s song that came out years later —

To be young and in love in New York City
To not know who I am but still know that I’m good long as you’re here with me
