Life’s a Chessboard: Take your time

Sitting by a beach promenade, amidst the bustling cityscape of Mumbai, she observed a group of players engrossed in a ten-minute chess game with old-fashioned chess pieces. Despite the constant stream of cars speeding by at 80 km/h and the rhythmic sound of the waves crashing against the shore, those ten minutes stretched on infinitely.

The players took their time deliberating each move, their thoughtful demeanor indifferent to the gawking passersby. Amidst the age of virtual life, onlookers were intrigued by this real-time interaction between two complete strangers.

In that moment of quiet reflection, she realized the power of paying attention to the present.

As she sat there watching the intense game, It became clear to her that by slowing down amidst life’s rapid pace, she could cultivate greater thoughtfulness and intentionality in her actions. Even a single minute was ample time to contemplate a new idea or to untangle the thoughts swirling in her mind.
