Getting to Cordova
I moved to Alaska a year ago and went to work on the Alaska Marine Highway System. AMHS is a system of Ferry’s that transports people, vehicles, and supplies throughout Alaska and connects the State to the lower 48 via Bellingham, Washington. I get to see a lot of small towns in Alaska and for the past six weeks have been stationed out of Cordova, Alaska.
A Real Alaskan Town
Cordova is a small fishing town in the Prince William Sound area. It has a year-round population of approximately 2,500 people but the summertime population is considerably higher. The fishing season brings in hundreds of seasonal workers for the fishing industry and the fish processing plants. There is also a seasonal tourism and eco-tourism industry.
