Though your tone depends on the type of conversation you’re in. if you’re having a convo with your loved ones, your tone might be soft and relaxed. In an argument, your voice tends to be louder as you want to assert your opinion and points. In business dealings or in a professional conversations where money is involved and you’re aiming at a better deal, you need to modulate your voice and use some techniques if you wanna get the deal you desire.

Here are some quick tips on how to modulate your voice when you wanna successfully persuade people.

Pitch Variation

Pitch variation plays a crucial role in voice modulation. The interest of your audience depends how dynamic your voice is. Many individuals mess up here. They speak so fast and in a monotonous tone that bores the audience to hell. None of their message, ideas, or emotions are conveyed correctly. In the first few minutes itself, the audience will be able to judge how interesting what you speak will be. Keep the audience engaged by adjusting your pitch. Don’t go too loud or keep it very low. Balance it according to your message.

Pace

Pace is imperative in persuasion. Avoid speaking too fast. Speaking slow too can take the enthusiasm away. Make sure your voice is well modulated. A well modulated voice is a balanced one. You pause, control, adjust your voice and pace. Be loud wherever you need to be. Slow, if the need arrivess. In any case, keep the listener in mind when you adjust your voice. Don’t just go on and on. Observe the reaction of your audience. Make sure they are with you and not bored or somewhere else. Its your job as the speaker to keep them hooked and interested.

Be a storyteller

Storytelling makes your audience attententive and super engaging. Stories are a powerful way of connecting with your audience. And a powerful way to persuade as well. With stories, you can deliver both your message and entertain the audience.

Volume control

Your volume control will decide how effective you are in persuasion. Soft voice can be helpful in calming the listner, making him or her more attentive. Where as a louder voice may end up provoking the listener. However, your voice control depends on the situation you’re in. When you want to command attention and convey your authority, a loud voice can assert your view point in a better way. A loud voice can help you reinforce your points and may even silent your listener to some extent. Loud voice asserts confidence. And when you are confident, your listener surrenders. While a soft voice can be equally effective in connecting with your audience.

Tone and inflection

The listener is very quick to notice your tone. Your tone decides the fate of your message. A warm, soft and friendly tone comes handy when you wanna build a rapport and trust. Inflection is how you change your voice depending upon message you wanna deliver. A smart speaker is the one who perfectly uses different tones and connects with the audience on a deeper level.

Emotional Resonance

As a speaker, your job is to use both words and emotions. And using genuine and different emotions like empathy, excitement, smile, etc. may make your message more relatable and compelling. Emotional resonance is the best way to strike the right emotional chord of your audience. Your words, opinions and perspective would be understood in a better way. Emotions play a crucial role in both delivering your message and connecting with your audience. Emotional resonance is what differentiates a pro speaker and an amateur.
