Medium Boosted Two of My Stories Last Month: A Stoic View
The philosophy helps me prepare for the next step.
One week after boosting my story about ten little creatures, Medium did the same to my other story. They boosted two of my stories in a mere one-week gap in January.
There are two things I learned when it comes to the boost: things out of my control and things under my control.
Stoic philosophy
This idea of control comes from the popular Stoic philosophy. The only things we can control are our own thoughts, actions, and emotions. Everything else is outside our control.
The boost isn’t under my control. I cannot nominate my story for boosting. And I’m not a Medium staffer, which has access to the boost button. But embarking on this realization is a good way to set up expectations.
Some fellow writers have the privilege of being able to nominate stories for Boost. They must have read my stories and nominated them for boosting. For the mysterious writers who nominated my stories, thank you! After that, Medium decided whether to boost them.
I guess that was what happened behind the screen of my boosted stories. But I don’t know for sure how the background process works. It is beyond my control.
