Meme’s hold unprecedented power to catalyse action.

This can take many forms: reaction, sometimes interaction, (lots of) transactions — that shape our physical and digital worlds; influencing our societal trends and behaviour. Niche ideas can explode into our collective consciousness in a flash, spreading exponentially.

If you were on 4Chan (an early social network) in the 2000’s you witnessed the birth and viral proliferation of cat caption memes (LOLcats) on saturdays (Caturdays) before they took over the planet. The savviest amongst us saw what was coming in the culture and opened cat cafe’s; launched cat accessories; or become catfluencers.Silliness, happiness and entertainment was the utility, and engine for sales.

And, given that horespower, meme’s can do an incredible amount of good.

The Ice Bucket Challenge for instance, a 2014 social media campaign that raised over $220 million globally for the fight against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
