Motivation is an emotion, a feeling, and with any other feeling, and with any other feeling such as sadness, or hunger, they come and they go.

We cannot act based on how we feel to achieve our wildest dreams imaginable and accomplish our goals. If you don’t feel motivated today, you only delay how long it will take you to reach you to reach your goals

If you only ate healthy when you felt like it, achieving your fitness goals would take you twice as long, possibly even longer.

Likewise, if we only acted on our goals when we felt like it, we’d only delay our success.

What you need to do is to work on that business, even though it’s been stagnant for the past 6 months.

What you need to do is to go for that morning run, even if you’re feeling tired.

What you need to do is to cook that healthy meal, even though you want to order take-out.

What you need to do is act, despite how you feel.

What you need, is Discipline.

Discipline, The Cornerstone of Every Successful Person

Everyone always talks about how much you need discipline, but what exactly is discipline?

Discipline is giving up what you want now for what you want most tomorrow.

Discipline is saying “Yes” to the pains of today so you may enjoy the pleasures of tomorrow.

Discipline is keeping today the promises you made to yourself yesterday to have a better tomorrow.

Discipline, in its simplest form, is choosing a better tomorrow.

How do we remain disciplined in our Actions?

Acting despite our feelings is an immense task, especially when we’re just starting. Here are some tips and tricks I use to remain disciplined in my day-to-day life:

  • Have systems in place: If you’re the type of person who always likes to get takeout, you can start meal-prepping so you’ll always have food at home. Meal Prep services also exist, so make sure to take advantage of those.

We fall to the level of our systems, not our habits.

  • Have an accountability partner: Whether you hire a personal trainer or even a friend, this person’s job is to keep you on track to achieving your goals.
  • Prioritize the process over the result. The man who loves to walk will walk further than the man who loves the destination.

Discipline is essential if you want to accomplish your goals. It’s up to you to decide if you want to suffer the pain of regret or the pain of discipline.
