What Are Compensation Related Goals

During my career, I have had some bad players as bosses. Let me be clear — 95% of those I worked for were on the up and up, but sometimes not. Sometimes my management attempted to move the goals posts (alter the agreed-upon performance objectives) of performance-based incentive compensation. I did not know what I did not know. I learned what I needed to do to ensure that I got paid if I met the goals.

Compensation-related performance goals come in three main types: there are many specific company-defined measurements, but below are the main three.

1. Goals associated with the entire companies’ performance.

2. Objectives associated with the division’s performance.

3. Targets associated with you and your team’s performance.
