At the risk of being dubbed ‘the Netflix movie critic’ after my last article on a wonderful music documentary, ‘David Foster, Off the Road,’ I’ve decided to introduce you to another movie I enjoyed recently.
Although I’ve long been a fan of British mysteries I don’t appreciate the ones where the accents are so thick I can’t easily understand their dialogue. Instead of switching to closed captions, because I read enough every day as it is, unfortunately, I sometimes skip them completely.
But this movie is spoken so clearly that I barely missed any of the dialogue.

I watched this movie twice because I enjoyed it so much. It’s sweet and “cheeky.” Oh please don’t ask me what cheeky means because it’s just a word that seems to fit this charming movie and I like saying it in my best British accent. Saying it cracks up Mr. Pam, my husband, who watched it with me — once.
He did like it, although it’s not his usual thing. (There are no war scenes in it).

Mrs. Palfrey is played by the British actress Joan Plowright, Baroness Olivier, professionally known as Dame Joan Plowright. She was married to Lawrence Olivier who was a famous actor and…
