Most readers probably know that Muslims pray five daily prayers, which are known as the Salat prayers. The transliterated Arabic word “Salat” means “Contact” in English.

We pray those five prayers during specific ranges of time throughout the day and night. This helps us keep our focus on God because remembering Him is the most important aspect of our lives:

You shall recite what is revealed to you of the scripture, and observe the Contact Prayers (Salat), for the Contact Prayers prohibit evil and vice. But the remembrance of GOD (through Salat) is the most important objective. GOD knows everything you do. (The Quran 29:45)

As the verse indicates, remembering God is even more important for our souls than the fact that the prayers forbid evil and vice.

Of course, like all believers in the Divine, we pray from our hearts to the Creator of existence itself. The Quran records many of these personal prayers and many of us find them inspiring and helpful to recite ourselves.
