Pediatric surgery was successfully performed on little Mustafa, the child portrayed with his father in a photograph that has become a symbol of the war in Syria.
The operation took place in Siena: it was complex and lasted three hours.
The entire refugee family was welcomed in Italy: the child was born without limbs, while the father lost a leg due to the conflict.
Mustafà is in good health and will be discharged in the next few days to continue his therapy.
The Festival itself launched a fundraiser to help father and son and the innocent victims of the conflict in Syria: over 100 thousand euros were raised
