Alexandrine Poetry
Alexandrine Form was birthed in medieval French poetry.
This type of poetry has 12 syllables per line and may also be called a dodecasyllable. It’s a versatile form in French and English poetry. The flexibility of an alexandrine allows for a variety of rhythms and emphases. The 12 syllables can be quite flexible in almost any pattern, enabling each line to have a variety of rhythms and emphases.
