MY DISCOVERY OF ARASHYAMA, The Bamboo grove in Japan
It was almost the end of my stay in Japan, I had one day left in Kyoto and I had to take the train to Osaka and catch the flight to Paris. I had planned during this last day to see the tea ceremony: this ritual that I had seen many times on Youtube, fascinated me and I wanted to see it in real life. So I went to Tongaya
After tasting green tea with the lady, suddenly, asking her for any interesting places to see in Kyoto, she mentioned to me Arashyama. Arashyama I repeated ?? Am I dreaming ? Is this place I dream of in Kyoto ? …Yes, she replied and she gave me a train map to locate it.
I begun to be excited ; that day, it was grey and a little fine rain fell intermittently but it didn’t matter to me : whether it rains or not, before I left Kyoto, I had to discover this bamboo grove .
Arashiyama Bamboo Grove is one of Kyoto’s top sights and for good reason : standing among these soaring stalks of bamboo is like being in another world.
We find this place by asking the direction to the stations of the trains, and we finally reached the city. When we arrived, we have to cross a river with a bridge, a beautiful and relaxing place and then we arrived in a small town.
You can directly access the Bamboo forest from the main street of Arashiyama following this route, you will enter via the north exit of Tenryu-ji Temple.
I cannot describe my wonder and joy! It was around us, a mesmerizing grove of thousands of tall bamboo plants ! A walkway goes through the forest , forming the famous Bamboo Alley…
No picture can capture the feeling of standing in the midst of this sprawling bamboo plant : it gives a sense of greatness which is not common with other normal forest.
Actually going to Arashiyama, it is so crowded, too many people and taking pictures is a bit boring : Sometimes, I waited half an hour to have my picture in this unique place, alone.
We went there again after lunch, because I was wondering when again, I will be able to visit this bamboo forest. Near the restaurant, we tasted the matcha ice cream : it was delicious and I saw many people eating it. So i decided to taste it…
That is my experience of Arashyama , it was my dream to see once in my life, and it was fulfilled …
